Following yesterday's trek we felt surprisingly good considering the number of miles we'd put in on semi-difficult terrain. Kelley left some trailmix in a pocket of her pack last night and the mice made sure to chew a hole through to get to it. The shelter we'd stayed at was only about 4 miles from Clingman's Dome, the highest point on the AT at 6643'. The hike up to the peak wasn't too terrible until the end when it got more sloped but the view from the top made it worth it. It's funny that it's such a big tourist attraction considering when Dave and I were discussing it we ranked it at about #4 of the trip and that's taking into account that we had no views in Georgia because of clouds.
We stayed up at the visitor's area on the peak for a couple of hours talking to tourists and answering the same four questions over and over again about our thru-hikes. All everyone ever wants to know about is the numbers involved in your hike and rarely the experiences of the thing. After we were through at the top we headed a couple of miles down to a very nice shelter that was tucked away a little of the trail.
